The essentials of B.A. (Hons.) Courses under the semester system in Social Sciences and Humanities are given below:-
 
A. MAIN COURSES
All Honours Courses have a set of Main Courses that a student has to study. The number of Main Courses is different for each Honours Course. The Main Courses are compulsory.


B.STRUCTURE OF CONCURRENT COURSES
Each student will be required to take four credit courses, and one qualifying course.
Concurrent courses for B.A. (Hons):-

 
1. Language Qualifying Course 1st Semester
2. Language Credit Course 2nd  Semester
3. Interdisciplinary Course 3rd Semester
4. Discipline Centered - 1 Course  4th Semester
5. Discipline Centered 2 Course  6th Semester
 

MARKS


  • Each course carries 100 marks: annual examination 75 marks, internal assessments 25 marks.

  •     
  • The pass marks for the Credit Courses is 40 percent.

  •  
  • The pass mark for the Qualifying Courses is 36 percent.

  •  

    A student has to pass in the Qualifying Course to be eligible for Honours Degree. However, the marks in this course will not be counted in the final division awarded.  

    No. of Classes per week: 4 lecture periods + 1 tutorial.
     
    Qualification (i) Delhi University has prescribed the following qualifications: (with 45% in aggregate as the minimum marks for admission)
    Senior School Certificate Examination (12 years) of Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi with Pass in Five subjects (One language and Four elective subjects) or an examination recognized as equivalent to that.
    OR
    Pre-University Examination (Two years after ten years of schooling) of an Indian University recognized by the University of Delhi).
    OR
    Intermediate Examination of an Indian University/Board or an Examination recognized as equivalent to that (Pass in Five written subjects).
    (ii) Indian School Certificate Examination (12 years) conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi (Pass in Five written subjects).
    (iii)   General Certificate of Education Examination of the U.K. with Pass:
    (a). in Five subjects of Ordinary Level, and
    (b). at least in Two subjects at Advanced Level. These two Advanced Level subjects may either be chosen from among the five Ordinary Level subjects or from outside this group as prescribed by the University of Delhi.
